Family photography

Family photos are treasures beyond any words. I look with wonder at a family photo of my grandfather’s family taken almost 100 years ago… this is the power photographs have, they stay with us forever and are things that are passed on from generation to generation. If you ask most people what they would save in the event of a fire apart from their loved ones it usually is “family photographs”.

It is wonderful to have photos of all the members of the family, not the mother or the father missing because they are the ones taking the photo, but everyone in the picture. And this is where I come into the picture. I love talking family pictures in a natural setting, where you feel comfortable rather than in a studio with lots of lighting. I especially find that children relax much quicker and forget about me the photographer very quickly allowing me to capture natural portraits.

I have shot family portraits in parks, on National Trust properties, with smaller children also often in families home and the sky is the limit really. I often suggest – especially when the children are older – to choose a place that holds some meaning for the family or to do it as part of something the family likes to do. Are you into horse riding? Do you play golf with each other? Is board games something you do often? I think you get the idea… but a nice park or mansion will always provide a fabulous backdrop for stunning photos.

The weather is never an issue. Much fun can be had with wellington boots and puddles for jumping, parents holding umbrellas or all wrapped up for a walk. This is the part I really like, the change of the seasons, the different light to play with.

I have held family portrait sessions right at the heart of Birmingham and much fun was had.

Your investment:

An hour photography on location i.e. your home, a park, a venue is £75. This includes a £25 print voucher that you can redeem against your purchases.

After the shoot, I will edit your photos and either show them to you in a viewing at your house (usually shown on my laptop), but I also provide a secure online gallery for you to view and purchase photos.
